I’m already a huge fan of love and murder, so dark somewhat earthy teas are right up my alley! This tea starts off dark and earthy, and little pops of tartness pop through as you enjoy the brew! Phenomenal

Underworld from Friday Afternoon Tea is a standout member of their Mythology collection—a series inspired by legendary tales and crafted to transport you through flavor and story. This blend is a lush, earthy-sweet indulgence that truly feels like a walk on the underside in a cup. Drawing inspiration from ancient Greek mythology, Underworld is designed to take you on a journey below, much like Persephone’s descent, with each sip revealing new depths and delights.

The tea’s foundation is a cave-aged Pu-erh, melding seamlessly with black tea to create a bed of velvet darkness. Shaved dark chocolate and natural black cherry flavoring contribute a decadent, candy-like richness, while dry chicory root adds an earthy undertone. Bright pops of pomegranate light your way, offering a subtle tartness that balances the blend. The dry aroma is reminiscent of chocolate-covered cherries, and upon brewing, the Pu-erh and pomegranate take center stage, coming together as a delightful treat for the palate. One of Underworld’s most enchanting qualities is how it evolves with each steep. The first infusion is dark and deep, symbolizing the arrival of fall and the encroaching darkness. After the third or fourth infusion, the tea lightens, mirroring the renewal of spring and the return of light—a thoughtful nod to the natural cycle of the seasons. With approximately 75mg of caffeine per cup and a recommended steeping temperature of 212°F (100°C) for 3-5 minutes, Underworld is as invigorating as it is flavorful. Probably the fave of the bunch I bought. Smells crazy (positive) and tastes surprisingly mellow. Looking forward to buying more.
